A Note About Ads

Dear regular readers,

I wanted to make you aware of the new advertising that will be showing on my blog. I am all about full disclosure, and I want you to know that every time you visit my site you are visiting an honest, truthful, reliable, and friendly source.

My main ad is through Blogher. They are a wonderful company and community growing the blogosphere, empowering women, and helping us bloggers do what we do. This pays to keep my site up and running!

I DO NOT run ads that are distasteful or incongruous with my main views. You will not find diet pill ads, etc. here. I have Google Adsense which can be tricky, so if you spot a distasteful ad, let me know so I can block it. I try my best to filter out the junk on there.

I will try to keep the blog as clean looking as possible, and will never use pop-up ads, or ads with sound automatically playing. If something is visible  it will have a play button for optional playback. My goal is not to be intrusive or obnoxious.

If you have any comments, just let me know. For now, thank you for being a reader and healthy eater!

I will leave you with a positive note for Love Your Humps Wednesday:

2012 Resolutions

I believe this will be the start of my third year of more serious blogging. But, hah, when is my blogging ever that serious?

Anyway, resolutions to me are more just things I want to do this year.

  1. Be a better blogger. Pay more attention to other blogs, and interact more in the blogosphere because this is a hobby of mine that I love.
  2. Pick up another new hobby. In 2011, I got my first road bike and started cycling about two times per week. What will I do this year?
  3. Improve my career. Last year, my current job improved, I started to get paid for writing health articles, and did some phone consults.
  4. Canoe down the Chattahoochee river (Mr. Cyclist whispered this one to me).
  5. Read 12 books in 2012… now that I have a Kindle. Right now I am reading the 2nd book of the Hunger Games trilogy. Maybe actually go to a book club meeting.
  6. Travel. Not sure where I will go this year. But, I want to road trip the coast of California, or go to the Florida Keys, or go to another island in the Caribbean, or take a ski trip. Of course I want to take a more international trip, but not sure that is in the budget for this year.
  7. Learn how to better save/invest my money. I don’t have a 401K at work, or anything else except a savings account. So, it is time to be more of an adult.
  8. Continue to work on eating clean and consistently exercising. Maybe find an exercise partner and take a cooking class.
  9. Build my friendships/make new friends. I tend to keep my circle of friends very small because I don’t like to have a million commitments, and I can just be an introvert sometimes.
  10. _______________________ Hmm. I don’t know what else. This last one can be to be filled in later.

Happy New Year!
Are you making any resolutions this year?

So Long Holidays, Until Next Year…

It was a white Christmas this year in Atlanta. A once in a lifetime thing! It hasn’t snowed on Christmas in Atlanta in 130 years.

We hibernated for a while inside, but then decided to try to go sledding (with no sleds) in the pitch dark. Still was a lot of fun!

On to the food: We had delicious crab cakes for an appetizer on Christmas.

The recipe came from a restaurant called Van Gogh’s in Roswell, GA. Best crab cakes ever!

They are a little difficult to cook because there is no breading filler to help hold them together. But, sometimes the messiest food is the most delicious.

I have searched the internet, and here is the recipe I found that seems the closest. The crab cakes are made with flour and a little heavy cream, and some spices. Then, there is a dressing that goes on top that is a mustard and leek vinaigrette.

How was your Holiday?

Hunger Driven Blogging

I recently wrote a post on Hollaback Health about the idea that many health bloggers and readers get into blogging after going through some sort of diet or change in eating. Read on here.

Owning It

Over the past few days there has been a lot of conversation about “owning it” in the health blogosphere. Rachel Wilkerson began the topic, and us Hollaback girls continued to discuss the importance of standing up for yourself and not being afraid to be yourself while blogging. We discussed the importance of honesty, loyalty, and individuality. Let’s face it–bloggers who have these qualities are ones that we respect.

So, what do I have to say on this topic? What do I “own”?

  • I am a health nut some days, and don’t care what people think when they see me with my snack bag of carrots, or a few apples in my purse. Hey, you know what they say… An apple a day…
I used to be afraid of displaying my healthy habits because people would always make comments. But, now, since I am a Dietitian, people pay me more respect for my food choices, and I am registered and licensed to be able to tell people what to eat!
  • I eat unhealthy food other days. I just don’t care. I love to eat some of my favorite foods every once and awhile (ice cream!). I may preach eat healthy food eat healthy food, but that doesn’t mean we have to eat that way 24/7.
  • I stopped caring if people think of me as a skinny bitch. Sorry for my language (yes, I prefer to be conservative with my language). I am usually pretty quiet and calm, and that can be perceived as a bitchy attitude. Oh well. I try to be pleasant and friendly, but I guess some people just don’t see that (and yes, people who really know me don’t think of me this way).
  • I don’t care what people think of my blog, or my posts. Of course I love it when people say they enjoy my site.
    Sorry, I’m not sorry
if you read something you don’t like.

Well, I was a little afraid to write about this topic at first. I am a little late to write about the topic, but I think it’s a good thing for people to know where I am coming from :) A little insight into the blogger behind the blog.

Study Break

As you may have noticed, my blog posts have become a little more infrequent because I am in super study mode. I am studying for my RD exam (to be a dietitian), and will not be done with study mode until next week. Posts will resume next week! Until then, I will be studying more 500+ flashcards (I know, ridiculous). They say when you are about to go insane is when you have mastered the information needed to pass.

Until then, I will look like this

UPDATE:
I passed my exam, and am now a Registered Dietitian!! Wahoo! As a side note, I will now post more accurate Diet-related information (correct terminology, etc.). Posts before this I never really proof-read or payed super close attention to my nutrition language. But, from now on I must protect the Dietetics profession :)

And now I look like this: Super happy
