Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Hot Off The Machine

October 2nd, 2011 | Posted by Nicole in Food Review

So, I have been living in the Atlanta area for about 9 years now (this seems crazy when I think about it), but I have only had Krispy Kreme doughnuts a few times. And I have never had them fresh off the machine. Mr. Cyclist alerted me that I needed to have them fresh because it is a once in a lifetime tasting experience.

I complained that Krispy Kreme is not that great, and that I like Dunkin’ Donuts just fine. Well, I was wrong. Krispy Kreme hot off the machine only are one of the best tasting foods that I have tasted. OK, they do not have a complex flavor, but they melt in your mouth and all you taste is lightly fried, sweet, melting dough. My Dad equates it to cotton candy, but in a donut form.

Definitely not nutritious. But, a tasting experience. FYI, I have the nutrition facts here:

1 Original Glazed Doughnut: 190 calories, 11 g fat, 5 g saturated, 21 g carbohydrate, 10 g sugar.

The original glazed is one of the lighter options on the menu. The Krispy Kreme website advertises that one donut has zero grams of trans fat. But, when you read their nutrition facts it states they use a shortening. This means that each donut does contain .5 grams or less trans fat. So, watch out! These tasty treats are not heart healthy and are a pro-inflammatory food.

All I can say is that it’s a good thing I don’t live close to the Krispy Kreme downtown. I do, however, live right around the corner from another donut place and have never ordered a donut from them. Funny. Anyway, I am glad I have Mr. Cyclist around to get me to try more unhealthy foods that are not Dietitian friendly.
